Amigurumi Chocolate Chip Muffin Pattern

I designed and crocheted this amigurumi chocolate chip muffin for day 3 of Stitchmaynia. If you’d like to make your own adorable muffin, here’s the pattern!

Notes

This pattern uses American crochet terms. If you’re more familiar with UK terms you can find the conversion here. The muffin is worked in continuous rounds- do not join or turn

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in beige (MC) and brown. My current favourite yarn for amigurumi is Caron Simply Soft, but you can use whichever brand you like
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker to mark the last stitch in the round (optional, but makes it easier to keep track!)

Gauge

Not important for this pattern. Make sure your stitches are tight enough that the stuffing doesn’t show through. You can go down a hook size if your stitches are too loose

Stitches

  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • sc2tog – sc decrease
  • BLO – back loop only
  • FLO – front loop only

Pattern

All stitches are in the main colour (MC) beige, unless marked as brown

Round 1: With MC (beige), make a magic loop. Crochet 6 sc in the loop
Round 2: sc inc in each sc (12 sts)
Round 3: (2 sc inc, sc in next stitch) repeat around (18 sts)
Round 4: (2 sc inc, sc in next two stitches) repeat around (24 sts)
Round 5: (2 sc inc, sc in next three stitches) repeat around (30 sts)
Round 6: (2 sc inc, sc in next four stitches) repeat around (36 sts)
Round 7: (2 sc inc, sc in next five stitches) repeat around (42 sts)

The base of the muffin is now complete!

Next we start the sides of the muffin. Working in the back loop only gives a sharper turn.

Round 8: sc BLO in each stitch around (42 sts)
Round 9: sc in each stitch around (42 sts)

Next we start the chocolate chips!

Round 10: (sc MC in next two stitches, sc brown in next two stitches, sc MC in next two stitches) repeat around (42 sts)

Round 11: sc in each stitch around (42 sts)
Round 12: sc in each stitch around (42 sts)
Round 13: (sc brown in next two stitches, sc MC in next four stitches) repeat around (42 sts)
Round 14: sc in each stitch around (42 sts)
Round 15: sc in each stitch around (42 sts)
Round 16: (sc MC in next four stitches, sc brown in next two stitches) repeat around (42 sts)
Round 17: sc in each stitch around (42 sts)

The main body of the muffin is complete. Next we make the top. Note that the edge will be wavy due to the increases. This is to give it a more realistic look

Round 18: (2 sc inc FLO, sc FLO in next stitch) repeat around (63 sts)
Round 19: (2 sc inc, sc in next two stitches) repeat around (84 sts)
Round 20: (sc2tog BLO, sc BLO in next five stitches) repeat around (72 sts)
Round 21: (sc2tog MC, sc MC in next stitch, sc brown in next stitch, sc MC in next 2 stitches) repeat around (60 sts)
Round 22: (sc2tog, sc in next two stitches) repeat around (45 sts)
Round 23: (sc2tog, sc in next stitch) repeat around (30 sts)

Start stuffing your muffin. You’ll keep adding more stuffing as you get closer to the end

Round 24: (sc2tog in brown, sc MC in next 3 stitches) repeat around (24 sts)
Round 25: sc in each stitch around (24 sts)
Round 26: (sc2tog, sc in next six stitches) repeat around (21 sts)
Round 27: (sc MC in next two stitches, sc brown in next stitch) repeat around (21 sts)
Round 28: (sc2tog, sc in next stitch) repeat around (14 sts)

Make sure you’ve added as much stuffing as you need to. It’ll be hard to add any more after the next round as the hole gets smaller.

Round 29: sc2tog around (7 sts)
Round 30: sc2tog, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog

Fasten off

Your amigurumi chocolate chip muffin is finished! If you like, you could embroidery a face and give your muffin some personality. You can substitute blue or purple yarn for the brown to make a blueberry muffin if you prefer
